This wine is from the Languedoc region in the south of France and is named after the various roses to be found in the garden of the producing chateau. Each label has the name and an illustration of one of the rose varieties: Centifolia, Damas, Traviata, Red Eden, Gallica and Alba (shown in the photograph). The wines have a wonderful fresh fruity aroma of grapefruit, cherries and strawberries combined with, not surprisingly, delicate floral notes. As the name suggests, this is a rosé with an intense floral nose from the blending of 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache.
Jardin de Roses comes from vineyards planted on the sandy, free-draining soils in parts of the Languedoc region of France. The diversity of this terroir thus makes it possible to produce wines with a subtle palette of aromas and flavours.
The chilled wine is ideal to sip on a summer’s day, as an aperitif in the evening or as an accompaniment to summer food - especially palatable with fish dishes, pasta, vegetarian dishes and smoked salmon.
Jardin de Roses is available from Waitrose at under £10 a bottle and is often on special offer.
